A Category 7 cable (Cat 7 Cable) is a type of shielded twisted pair cable used in 1 Gbps and higher Ethernet-based computer networks. The ISO/IEC 11801:2002 Class F specification defines and specifies it. Cat 7 cabling and equipment are backward compatible with Cat 6, Cat 5, and Cat 5/e cabling and equipment.
The Panduit Cat7 cable is a high-quality, low-cost, flexible coaxial cable that can be used in any application where a standard CAT5e/6 cable would normally be used. This includes both indoor and outdoor applications. It shall meet the IEC 61156-5 Class F component standard. The conductors shall be 23 AWG construction with foamed skin PE insulation. The copper conductors shall be twisted in pairs each covered by a foil shield within an overall braided shield and a low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) jacket.
By demanding that each pair be entirely shielded and form a screen-shielded twisted pair (SSTP) or screen-foiled twisted pair (SFTP) based cabling, the Cat 7 cable outperforms its predecessors in terms of crosstalk and attenuation.
